Health & Wellness

A critical component for any child is health and wellness, including food and nutrition. Spaulding Youth Center offers two departments which care for these basic human needs on behalf of our students on campus: Health Services and Food Services.

Spaulding Health Services

Our Health Services Department includes a team of dedicated nurses and health assistants. We work closely with families of children with complex medical as well as behavioral needs. Our team is skilled at helping students cope with unfamiliar or anxiety-inducing healthcare processes. We also maintain certifications in CPR, first aid, and other public health issues.

Health services we provide include:

  • Nursing assessments and medical treatments
  • Medication management
  • Dental, vision and hearing evaluations
  • Immunizations
  • Scheduling and arrangement of doctor and dental appointments
  • Facilitation of all medical evaluations including neurological, psychological and other special evaluations

The Health Services Department also provides health education for students, families and employees on a variety of topics including medications, diet, exercise and preventative health.

Spaulding Food Services

The Food Services Program provides students with healthy, delicious and nutritious meals and also accommodates special dietary needs and eating protocols. Spaulding staff are trained to follow and support these needs and protocols, including the use of adaptive utensils and trays.

Students eat meals together in our dining hall where they are served well-balanced meals in a pleasant eating environment. All students attending the Spaulding School will enjoy a traditional cafeteria experience for their midday meal. Midday meals offer healthy food choices, including a hot lunch, sandwich options, a salad bar with fresh vegetables, soup and other selections.

Residential students will also enjoy breakfast and dinner daily with their cottage household. Healthy snacks and food preparation is also a part of residential life and the independent living skills program. Each cottage has a fully-equipped kitchen where students learn to prepare meals and snacks.
