Spaulding Youth Center Hosts Matt Bonner at Annual Multicultural Celebration

December 21, 2016

Northfield, NH – After researching holiday customs from around the world, Spaulding Youth Center students presented their projects to family and guests during the Annual Multicultural Celebration.

Spaulding Youth Center Multicultural Celebration 2017Leading up to the celebration, each of the eleven classrooms at Spaulding Youth Center School conducted extensive research to identify one specific custom to present at the celebration. The classroom then developed a creative expression to share their findings. Presentations included Chinese New Year, Dominick the Italian Christmas Donkey, Mardi Gras parade, Hawaiian Fire Dance, Vietnamese New Year, Beltane (May Day), Earth Day, Japanese Kite Celebrations, and more!

This year’s celebration ended with a special visit by Matt Bonner, professional basketball player and community supporter who graduated from Concord High School. After watching the presentations, Mr. Bonner handed out autographed pictures from his career with the San Antonio Spurs and backpacks from his Concord, NH basketball camp. He also donated several basketballs for the students to use during gym class.

“The Annual Multicultural Celebration is a favorite happening here on campus. Not only do the kids find the research and creative aspects engaging, but these projects teach our students fundamentals in public speaking, self-confidence and acceptance of various cultures,” shares James Clements, CEO & President of Spaulding Youth Center. “Concluding the event with Matt and sharing his local upbringing was inspirational for the students and families alike. Nearly every celebration attendee waited in line to meet him personally. His participation provided a very special finish to an already cherished event.”
